VPHM 2020: Adjustments to The Race Hosting Plan

The VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 will go ahead as scheduled on October 18, 2020, in compliance with the government's regulations on a "new normal" context, organized by connecting offline and online race, in line with the spirit of the ASEAN year's slogan "Cohesive and Responsive".

The Race Organizing Committee (ROC) of the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 announces its plan to organize the race with some adjustments to the start time as well as the ways of participation to ensure safety for runners, while still making it an attractive marathon, especially in the difficult context of the pandemic. In particular, with the new organization plan, the race will be a message about a revitalized Vietnam and a safe destination as soon as the pandemic subsides. It also encourages runners to promote skills to live safely with the epidemic in order for the life in Vietnam to continue and develop in even the most difficult conditions.

The race is officially held on October 18, including four categories (42 km, 21 km, 10 km and 5 km) with the starting point at Hoan Kiem Lake for Hanoi-based runners and those able to move to Hanoi for the competition.

Start time:

• 42-km marathon       Start at 00:00; Cut off time at 06:30

• 21-km race               Start at 03:00; Cut off time at 06:30

• 10-km race               Start at 04:30; Cut off time: not applicable

• 5-km race                 Start at 08:00; Cut off time: not applicable



Runners can choose to join a marathon hosted by domestic running clubs at the same time with the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020 in Hanoi. The mini-races are held in various localities for Vietnamese runners and foreigners who reside in Vietnam but who are not able to come to Hanoi. Mini races will be connected to the main marathon in Hanoi via streamlining and Internet tools. Participants of the mini race will not have their results counted for prize competition, but will receive the event T-shirt, medal and the Finisher T-shirt (only applies to the 42-km distance) once they complete the registered distance.

The following cities are expected to host the competition:

• Da Nang / Ho Chi Minh City / Can Tho



a. Online race for athletes of the national teams of ASEAN countries:

i.          Time: from 00:01:00 to 07:00:00 on October 18;

ii.         Prize: competing for the online race prizes;

iii.        Participants: Only applicable to professional athletes from the national teams of ASEAN countries, regulated by the Vietnam Sports Administration.

iv.        Conditions for being qualified for prize:

1. Runners who complete the registered distance need to send results to the ROC using their 84Race account before 08:00:00, Vietnam time (GMT+7), October 18.

2. The national athletics federations of ASEAN countries send an independent confirmation of the runner's results to the marathon's Board of Referees.

3. The prize will be decided by the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020's Board of Referees in accordance with the race's terms and conditions.

b. Online race for the athletes of mass population, applicable to the following participants and rules:

i.          Participants:

1. Vietnamese and foreign runners living in Vietnam's cities or provinces, but who are not able to come to Hanoi or to join the mini races hosted by domestic running clubs.

2. Foreign runners living outside Vietnam, who have registered but cannot come to Vietnam and are still willing to participate in the VPBank Hanoi Marathon ASEAN 2020.

ii.         Time to complete the race: between 00:01:00 and 23:59:00, October 18.

iii.        Prize:

1. This online race results are not qualified for prize;

2. Runners who complete their registered distance within the race's specified time will receive their Finisher T-shirt (for the 42-km marathon only), event T-shirt, and medal (applicable to all distances).

iv.        The conditions to consider completing the marathon:

1. Runners need to have an account on the 84Race site to join the online race under the terms and conditions to be published on 84Race.

2. Runners complete the registered distance within the race's specified time and must send the result to the ROC using the 84Race account before 23:59:00, Vietnam time (GMT+7), October 18.
